María Cecilia Plested

Mariá Cecilia PlestedMaría Cecilia Plested was born and grew up in Cali, Colombia, where she studied the B.A.s Modern languages (French and English), Latin American Literature and Spanish Philology at the University of El Valle, from where she graduated in February and October 1975. In 1976, she started to work at the University of Antioquia in Medellin in the field of LSP (German and English) and became full professor in 1993. She finished her translation and lexicology M.A. studies (German, English, French and Spanish) at the Humboldt University of Berlin in 1983 and obtained her Ph.D in German Philology at the same University.  For over 34 years, she has been doing pedagogical research in teaching LSP and terminology, on the one hand, and in the sistemization of translems and applied cognitive interpretation, on the other hand.


Since 1995, M. C. Plested has been Coordinator of the Research Group in Terminology and Translation of the School of Languages at the University of Antioquia in Medellin, Colombia and works at the same time as freelance translator and interpreter in different languages (German, English, French and Spanish). Her main interests cover research in conceptology, terminology databases and tools, implementation of new terminology strategies in LSP and terminology networking in Latin America.
