A Min Tjoa

Infoterm_VicePresident_A Min TjoaA Min Tjoa holds a M.Sc. in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Engineering and is full professor at the Vienna University of Technology.

His main areas of research are among others:
  • Data Warehousing, Data Mining, Semantic Web
  • Software Engineering: Object Oriented Analysis and Design, Reusability
  • Information Systems: Object Oriented Databases, Non Standard Applications, Intelligent  Information Retrieval, Semantic Web
  • Knowledge Management
  • Electronic Commerce: Cultural Information Systems, Webmonitoring
In 1982, he started as Professor for Computer Science at the University of Vienna, where he occupied the post of Head of the Institute of Statistics and Computer Science from 1985 to 1987. From 1987 to 1995, he was Guest Professor at various Universities (Zurich, Kyushu, Lausanne), Head of Department in Linz-Hagenberg and Full Professor in Delft. In 1995, he was appointed Director of the Institute of Software Technology at the TU Vienna as well as Coordinator for TU Vienna of the ASEAN-European University Network (ASEA_UNINET) and for the EURASIA-Pacific University (EPU) Network, positions that he has been holding up to now.

A part from acting as Chairman of many prominent committees, bodies and conferences he was, inter alia:

1998-2003    Dean of Academic Affairs at the TU Vienna
1999-2003    President of the Austrian Computer Society
2000-2003    Head of the National Inter-university Institute for Information Systems for
                   Visually Impaired (I3S3)
2002-2005    Head of the Austrian Grid-Miner Project funded by the Austrian National
                   Science Foundation
2003            Member of the Austrian delegation to the United Nations World Summit on
                   the Information Society (WSIS)
2004-2007    Member of the IFAP Council of the Austrian Commission for UNESCO

In addition, he has been since

2004    Director of the Institute for Integrated Studies (IS) for Research, Teaching, and
           Development of Technology for People with Special Needs
2004    Member of the Board (Senate) of the Christian Doppler Foundation for the
           establishment of high-technology transfer labs in Austria
2006    Head of the Austrian Industrial Competence Center “Secure Business Austria”
           (K-ind Center)
