The following organizations have been designated Registration Authorities for the different ISO 639 codes:
- Infoterm (ISO 639-1/RA) for the alpha-2 language code elements contained in ISO 639-1:2002
- Library of Congress (LoC) (ISO 639-2/RA) for the alpha-3 language code elements contained in ISO 639-2:1998
- SIL International (ISO 639-3/RA) for the alpha-3 language code elements comprised in ISO 639-3:2007
- Library of Congress (ISO 639-5/RA) for the alpha-3 code elements comprised in ISO 639-5:2008
- Geolang has been designated the Registration Authority (ISO 639-6/RA) for the alpha-4 code elements comprised in ISO 639-6:2009.
