Eugen Wüster Prize (EWP) 2014
The award ceremony for the Eugen Wüster Prize (EWP) 2014 took place at the closing ceremony of the International Conference on Terminology and Knowledge Engineering (TKE 2014) hosted by DIN, the German Institute for Standardization, in Berlin (Germany). The EWP Winner 2014 is Prof. Dr. Key-Sun Choi of KORTERM, the Korea Terminology Research Center for Language and Knowledge Engineering (KORTERM), at KAIST.
Prof. Choi is a professor of the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) since 1988. His areas of expertise include natural language processing, ontology and knowledge engineering, semantic web and linked data, and their infrastructures including text analytics. From 2006 to 2011, he was the Head of the Computer Science Department at KAIST. In 2012, he founded the research group on Open Knowledge Convergence, which was officially recognized as one of the main KAIST research groups. In the form of a joint professorship, he has greatly contributed to the Department of Knowledge Service Engineering and the Graduate School of Information Security in KAIST.
From the beginning of this millennium, Prof. Choi has been involved in numerous academic activities including numerous:
- keynotes and invited speeches
- workshops, seminars, and conference organization
- functions at international and national level in scientific journals and services for society
- participations to conferences and memberships in program committee
His outstanding academic performance has earned him several high-level recognitions – for instance the Award of the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Korea for the "NLP Hub", presented at the Korean Language Processing Competition in the framework of the Hangul and Korean Language Processing Conference, in Busan, 12-13 October 2012. |
